What is a Sage Relay, and why does Sage have six?

One Relay line, six variants: the bridge between general lighting and central battery.

A Sage Relay is a small module that converts a standard LED luminaire into an emergency-capable fixture powered by central battery. Sage offers six variants because different fixtures need different power outputs.

What a Sage Relay does

A Sage Relay sits inside (or beside) a standard LED luminaire. In normal operation, the luminaire runs from the building's AC power as usual. When AC power fails, the relay instantly switches the luminaire to a low-voltage DC feed from a central battery system, keeping the LEDs on at a controlled brightness for the required 90-minute emergency duration.

Why six different variants

Different LED fixtures draw different amounts of normal-mode power and run at different driver output voltages. A Sage Relay must be matched to the host fixture, so the one Relay line ships in six variants (RLY-1 through RLY-6) covering the practical range:

  • RLY-1 — Standard application · driver output to 41 V.
  • RLY-2 — Standard application · driver output to 54 V.
  • RLY-3 — Standard application · driver output to 54 V, J-box mount configuration.
  • RLY-4 — High-bay application · driver output 21–126 V.
  • RLY-5 — Standard application · driver output to 100 V.
  • RLY-6 — High-bay application · driver output to 210 V.

Factory-installed vs. field-installed

Sage Luminaires (general lighting with optional Sage Relay) ship from the factory with the relay pre-installed and pre-wired — these arrive ready to connect to a central battery system. Standalone Sage Relay modules are available for retrofitting an existing third-party LED luminaire to operate with central battery emergency power.

How Relay selection works

Specifiers and agents do not self-select SR modules. Sage's engineering team picks the appropriate SR variant for each project opportunity based on the host fixture's normal-mode wattage, voltage, and the overall emergency-system architecture. The spec sheet documents the full SR range for reference; the final SR SKU lands in the submittal package Sage delivers with the project.
